Crime Blotter--a smorgasbord of crime

A 35-year-old man was inside his Lexington Heights residence with friends, celebrating his birthday. A male subject, known by the victim as “Money Ball,” knocked on the door and came inside. After being inside for a few minutes, “Momey Ball” pulled a handgun from underneath his shirt, pointed it at the resident, and demanded that he give him all he had. The resident gave “Money Ball” his money, then “Money Ball” turned to the other guests and said he was only dealing with the resident, not them. He then left the scene, running towards Lexington Road. Investigators were able to identify the suspect as Jamaal Akem Ball, 25, Woodridge Circle, Athens. Warrants have been issued for Ball’s arrest, and anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Jamaal Ball are asked to contact the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. Ball should be considered armed and dangerous. 

A 25-year-old woman was walking south on Lumpkin Street near Gran Ellen Drive at approx. 12:40am on April 29. As she walked, she met a white male walking in the opposite direction. The man charged her and they fell to the ground, then rolled down an embankment. During the struggle, the woman was choked, but was able to fight the subject off. The subject forcefully took woman’s cell phone, then ran from the scene. The woman described her attacker as a white male, average height, stocky build, short hair, wearing a white tee-shirt and basketball shorts.

At approximately 5:26am on April 29 , a 40-year-old womanwas walking back to her room at the Budget Host Inn located at 3425 Atlanta Highway. She had been visiting a friend in another room, when a man known to her as “Moe” came in, at which time she left. On the way to her room, she heard a door close, then heard someone approaching her from the rear. According to the woman, “Moe” ran up behind her and grabbed her purse, forcefully ripping it from her shoulder. “Moe” then ran and was seen entering a red or maroon Jeep SUV and leaving the scene. “Moe” is described as a black male, 20 years old, 5’ 08”, thin build and possibly having dreadlocks. The woman received minor injuries during the incident but declined medical treatment. 

A 47-year-old woman came home to her Magnolia Street residence and found two subjects in her back yard. One of the subjects was holding a window air conditioner that had been taken out of a window at the residence. When they saw the woman, they ran. An X-Box 360 Game System, Sony Flat-Screen TV and an air conditioning unit were taken. Shortly afterwards, investigating officers found the suspects at a Baxter Street location, and after they were identified by the victim, they were arrested and charged with Burglary. Tomy Lamar Jackson, 30, and Dwayne Shipirso Hopward, 40, both with a Hawthorne Avenue address were transported to the Clarke County Jail.

A 49-year-old man reported that his green, 1994 Mazda B4000 pickup truck (GA license 708BCX) had been stolen while it was parked near his Brockett Drive residence. A neighbor stated that she had seen a turquoise-colored pickup truck, occupied by three men (one white and two black), towing the truck from the location at approximately 2:00pm on April 27.
