Reward Offered in Armed Robbery

A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of a suspect for an armed robbery that happened early this morning. Around 12:55am as employees were leaving On the Way Chevron, 1097 Baxter St, they were approached by a male who was armed with a hand gun. He ordered them back into the store. They were then ordered behind the counter and told to place the money in a sack. They complied and were then made to go in the office. The suspect left the store and fled on foot. He was described as wearing a black scarf over his face, a green army style jacket, white gloves, black pants, and white shoes. He appeared to be in his 40’s or 50’s and he was a black man. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect. In other police news: 

An officer met with a Crawford resident at Athens Regional Medical Center on May 31.  The man said he was walking in the area of Hancock Avenue and Glen Haven around 8:30pm on  May 29 when he was struck on the back of the head with and unknown object.  He said he did not see his attacker. The blow caused him to lose consciousness.  When he came to he discovered $3 had been stolen.  He did not go to the hospital until the 31st.  He left before detectives could talk with him.

A storage shed at a Riverview Road residence of was burglarized between midnight and 6am on May 31. Chain saws and a hedge trimmer were stolen. The total value was $550.
