Crime Blotter--Assault, Robbery, Car Break-ins

A man from North Carolina said that on October 6th at around 11pm he had been visiting in the downtown area. He said he ended up in the Bethel Midtown complex. He said he had been drinking and decided he was going to get a taxi. While waiting for the taxi, Shook said two black men came out of Bethel Homes. He asked them where a good place was to catch a taxi. One of the men snatched the man’s wallet and ran into Bethel. The man said he chased the males but he was unable to catch them.

A man said that at 2am on October 7 he was working the register at the CVS at 795 Oglethorpe Ave. He said a white man pulled a knife on him and demanded money, and he gave the man an undetermined amount of money and the suspect left. The suspect was described as white, 6 feet to 6 feet three, and 180-220 lbs. The investigation is ongoing.

A man from Norcross who owns a cell phone said a black man snatched the cell phone while a friend was using it. The cell phone owner said after a short chase he caught the suspect and he agreed to return it. The owner said that when he released his hold on the suspect, the suspect hit him in the face and was able to get away. The owner activated the GPS and the phone was traced to Vine St. Officers responded to the area and found the victim’s phone on the person of Derrick Ruff. Ruff was charged with Robbery and Battery. 

Two juveniles were charged with Terroristic Threats and Aggravated Assault when a woman reported that her car was struck, while she was driving on Providence Rd, by a BB pellet. The woman said she looked and saw the suspects (juveniles) pointing the air rifle out of the 2nd story window of a residence. Officers responded to the incident location and located two more victims. There were no serious injuries related to this incident.

A woman said her car was entered between midnight and 7am on October 6th. The car was parked on Ashley Circle. Someone took a pocketbook with contents valued at $218.

A woman said someone entered her car between 11:30pm on October 5 and 7:30am on October 6. The car was parked on Gaines School Rd. The thief took art supplies valued at $170. 

A woman said her car was parked on Hollow Ridge Drive. Someone entered the car between 10pm on October 5th and 11am on October 6th and took a stereo valued at $350.

A woman said her car was parked on Gaines School Road. Someone entered her car between 9:30pm on October 5th and 11am on October 6th and took CD’s values at $150.

A man said his Jeep was parked at Harris Trucking on Winterville Road. On October 6th at 2:52pm, someone entered the Jeep and took oxycodone and $160.
