Crime Blotter---car break-ins and stealing

A man reported that his Lavender Lakes Drive residence had been entered when someone broke a rear bedroom window with a rock. A TV and an X-Box 360 Game System were stolen. ACCPD officers conducted a search of the area and recovered the stolen items in a vacant residence next door to the victim’s. 

A woman reported that her unlocked vehicle was entered while it was parked in front of her East Broad Street residence. The dashboard of her vehicle was damaged by someone who attempted to remove the in-car stereo.

A woman reported that her vehicle had been damaged while it was parked behind her Pepperidge Lane residence. The vehicle had been scratched and dented in several places. A second vehicle, belonging  to a man had been entered while it was parked at the residence and an in-car CD player/stereo had been stolen. 

A woman reported that her vehicle was entered while it was parked at her residence on Ashley Circle. The only property taken was change from the door pocket.

Around 10:20am on July 19 officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred at an Old Lexington Road residence. Officers cleared the residence and did not find anyone inside. The female resident said a laptop and a jewelry box containing jewelry had been stolen; no values were given. Just before this call, a suspicious vehicle had been seen in the area. Other officers were looking for the vehicle and an officer located it on Carriage Lane and made a traffic stop. The owner of the vehicle arrived and gave permission for it to be searched. During the search, jewelry that did not belong to the owner was found. Both occupants were then arrested. During a search of one occupant, Keith Mario Smith, jewelry items were found on his person. Smith, 23, of Very Best Road in Carlton, and Terry A. Bailey, 23, of Milford Drive, were charged with Burglary.  

Officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred at Trappeze Bar, 269 North Hull Street around 3:30pm on July 19. An employee saw a man run from a storage room with a backpack owned by another employee. The employee chased the suspect to the Cotton Exchange Apartments, where he lost contact.  Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. While waiting for a detective, the witness saw a male walking toward them and advised he looked like the offender although he was not wearing the same shirt.  He was stopped and asked for identification. While talking with the officers he was very nervous.  After an investigation, James Lee Elder, 21, North Hull St, was arrested and charged with Burglary.  The backpack was recovered.  

A man from Melbourne, FL, reported that a storage building on his Dunlap Road property was burglarized sometime before 1:30pm on July 19. Aluminum fencing, copper wiring, copper jumper cables, a metal chain, and an amusement park ride were stolen. The total value was $27,700.  

Between 7pm on July 18th and 8am on July 19th, $40 was stolen from a cash box in a storage area at Lay Park, 297 Hoyt Street.
