Crime Blotter--car thefts, purse thefts and other bad things

ACCPD officers responded to a suspicious person call on Danielsville Road. A black man had been seen carrying a heater through a resident’s yard. When he saw the officers, he put the heater down and walked away. Investigation revealed the heater had been taken from a storage shed behind the church at 2370 Danielsville Road. The church building and contents belong to the Georgia Cumberland Association of Seventh Day Adventists.

A 19-year-old man reported that his vehicle was entered while it was parked at his Madison Heights residence. A wallet, containing cash and credit cards, was stolen from inside the vehicle.

Samantha ING, 24, reported her car was entered while parked near her Epps Bridge Parkway residence. Items were strewn about inside her vehicle, but nothing could be determined to be missing.

A 21-year-old woman reported her vehicle was entered while parked near her Epps Bridge Parkway residence. A Garmin GPS System was stolen from inside the vehicle.

A 20-year-old girl reported her vehicle was entered while parked near her Epps Bridge Parkway residence. A Magellan GPS System was stolen from inside her vehicle.

A 22-year-old man reported his vehicle was entered while it was parked at his Vine Street residence. An Amazon Kindle Reader was stolen from inside the vehicle.

At 4:00a.m., February 19, ACCPD officers responded to 125 Baxter Drive in regards to a report of a white man and a white woman  in the parking lot and entering vehicles. The witness provided a description of their vehicle as they left the area, and officers were able to make contact and stop the vehicle. Property located in the vehicle identified several victims from several entering autos. At the time of this release, all the victims have not been contacted. Larry Thomas Coker, Jr., 26, Malcomb Bridge Road, Bogart and Timberly Kay Denton, 24, Lavender Road, Athens, were arrested and charged with multiple counts of Entering Auto.

A 26-year-old man reported that persons unknown took his vehicle, a silver, 2002 Ford Focus, while it was parked near his Epps Bridge Parkway residence. The vehicle was later recovered inside the complex, near the entrance gate, undamaged.

A 38-year-old Athens woman reported that her purse had been stolen while she was at Nona’s Bar at 279 East Broad Street. The purse was described as a Juicy Couture purse and contained a Nikon digital camera, a Motorola Droid telephone, numerous credit cards and cash. A suspect was viewed on surveillance cameras removing the purse. A short time later, officers responded to Topper’s in reference to a suspicious person. When they arrived at that location, they made contact with a suspect matching the description of the person viewed on camera at Nona’s. Investigation revealed that the subject had active warrants for his arrest and he was taken into custody on those warrants. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of some of the property from the theft of the purse. It was also determined that he had utilized two stolen credit cards inside of Topper’s and had sold the woman’s camera to an employee at that location. Jason Kerry Moody, 26, Fairfield Circle, Bogart, was arrested and charged with Theft By Taking, Financial Transaction Card Fraud, Possession of Hydrocodon and Prescription Drugs Not In Original Container. 

Dustin Lankford, 23, Riverdale Drive, Athens, was stopped after he failed to obey a traffic control device. Investigation revealed he was driving with a suspended driver’s license and was arrested. During an inventory of his vehicle, prior to it being towed, it was also discovered that he was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and was also charged with that violation.
