Crime Blotter--Domestic Disturbance, Stolen Jewelry and Burglaries

Officers responded to a domestic on Vine Street on Jan. 13. at around 2:28am. Officers met with Daniel Williams. Williams was drinking and said he wanted a woman to leave his residence. Officers met with the woman, who lives in the Vine Street house with Williams and another man. The woman said she had done nothing wrong and was not leaving the residence. Since officers at this time could not determine any evidence that a crime had been committed, officers explained the eviction process to Williams and were leaving the property when they heard a gunshot. Williams had intentionally fired a shot into the ceiling of the residence. No one was injured. Williams was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A woman reported that she was the victim of a robbery while she was at the Athens Arena. The incident occurred around 1:30am on Jan. 13. The woman said that she had been on the dance floor when a man snatched her cell phone. The woman said she grabbed the suspect but he passed her phone off to someone in the crowd. The woman reported the incident several hours after it occurred.

A woman said her Meadow Drive home was burglarized between 9pm on Jan. 11 and 7am on Jan. 12. There were no signs of forced entry. The resident said a TV and laptop, valued at $800, were taken.

A man reported that a home that he had recently purchased on Rocksprings St was burglarized between Jan. 2 and Jan. 9. The man said there was no forced entry. Furniture, building supplies and an antique sewing machine were missing. The man valued the missing items at $1,701.

A man reported that his rental property on Kenwood Drive had been burglarized. The man said the burglary occurred between Jan. 10 and Jan. 12. A refrigerator, washing machine and a dryer were taken. The items were valued at $1,000. 

A man reported that his Rustwood Drive home was burglarized between 5pm on Jan. 11 and 1pm on Jan. 12.  There were no signs of forced entry, 2 TVs and a blue ray player were taken. The stolen property is valued at $1700.

Officers responded to a burglary in the eastern part of Athens Clarke on Jan. 13 at around 1:40am.  An arrest was made. The victim was sexually assaulted. This incident is still under investigation.

A male employee for Jewel Time at Georgia Square Mall said between 9pm on Jan. 11 and 11pm on Jan. 12, someone stole approximately $8000 worth of assorted gold jewelry from his kiosk in the mall concourse.  

A man said someone entered his 1981 Oldsmobile while it was parked on Sussex Drive between 11:30pm on Jan. 11 and 12:30pm on Jan. 12. A car stereo valued at $200 was taken.
