Crime Blotter--don't leave valuables in your car!

At 1:01am on December 11, ACCPD responded to a single-vehicle accident on Smokey Road at Camp Halinan Road. A 2004 Chevrolet Impala had been traveling northeast on Smokey Road when the driver lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, Joshua Omar Hitchcock, 26, First Street, Crawford, GA, was killed in the collision.

At 4:13am on December 11, ACCPD officers met with a  22-year-old man at St. Mary’s Hospital. He had several knife wounds to his arm, shoulder and chest. He stated that he had been at his sister’s residence in Broad Acres when he became involved in a fight with his sister’s boyfriend. After the fight, the victim went upstairs. A short time later, the boyfriend came upstairs and attacked the victim with a knife. The victim was able to fight his attacker off, then was driven to the hospital for treatment. Investigating officers returned to the scene and found the boyfriend, Joshua Kevin Rogers, 23, McCurley Road, Winterville, along with evidence from the attack. Rogers was arrested at the scene for Aggravated Assault.

An ACCPD officer saw a black Ford Explorer traveling on West Broad Street that had been reported stolen in Oconee County. The vehicle was stopped on Rocksprings Street near Dearing Street A passenger jumped out and ran, dropping drugs and a digital scale. Following a foot pursuit, the passenger, John Thomas Chambers, Jr., 20, Dearing St., Athens, was apprehended and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Obstruction of Police Officers and Criminal Trespass. The driver of the vehicle, Troy Latrell Cooper, 36, Sam Cooper Rd., Watkinsville, was arrested and turned over to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

A 52-year-old man reported that a rental property belonging to him, located at 664 Barber Street, had been entered through a rear door. A refrigerator, washing machine and dryer had been taken from inside the house. A storage building behind the house had also been entered, and a table saw and band saw were stolen.

A 19-year-old man reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered while parked at his Homestead Drive residence and stereo equipment stolen from inside the vehicle.

Three vehicles were entered while parked at the Brookwood Condos, 660 Barnett Shoals Road. A vehicle belonging to a 27-year-old woman was entered through a broken window and stereo equipment and a Garmin GPS was stolen.

A vehicle belonging to a man was entered through a broken window and stereo equipment and cash were stolen.

A vehicle belonging to a 29-year-old man was entered through a broken window and ster equipment stolen.

A 42-year-old man reported his unlocked vehicle was entered while parked at his Wynfield Road residence and a wallet, GPS system, laptop computer and credit cards were stolen.

A 21-year-old man reported that his vehicle was entered through a sliding rear window and a North Face book bag containing an Apple laptop computer and charger, a radar detector and speakers were stolen while it was parked at North Church Street at Hill Street Street.

Three vehicles were entered while parked at 775 West Hancock Avenue. A vehicle belonging to a 19-year-old was entered and a GPS, amplifier and speakers were stolen. (Case # 11-12-0676)

A vehicle belonging to a 20-year-old man was entered through a broken window, but nothing was taken.

A vehicle belonging to a 19-year-old man was entered and a wallet and credit cards belonging to a 19-year-old woman were stolen.

A 21-year-old man who lives on Melbourne Place, Athens, reported that his vehicle was entered through a broken window while it was parked at the New Joy Church of God at 496 Reese Street. A stereo/GPS combination and speakers were stolen.
