Crime Blotter--more thieving and stealing; cars entered

A 15 year-old young man was home alone at his Barrington Drive residence when he noticed someone outside his apartment door acting suspiciously. Seconds later, whoever it was kicked the front door open, but when the resident pushed back on the door and yelled, the intruder fled the scene. A description of the suspect was provided, and shortly afterwards, an officer made contact with a man riding a bicycle on Gaines School Road. After the man on the bicycle was positively identified, he was taken into custody. Charged with Burglary was Tyson Mohammed Barnett, 23, Forest Acres Circle, Athens. 

ACCPD officers responded to a burglar alarm at at 1068 Baxter Street. Investigation revealed that someone had thrown a piece of cinder block at the front door, but the door had not broken and no one had gone inside.

Someone from Gibbons Way reported that the outside air conditioning unit had been removed from a residence on Crows Nest Court. Investigation revealed that the unit had been disassembled and the unit and the removed parts were discovered under the residence.

An Oglethorpe Terrace resident reported that he had left his vehicle parked at a location near the intersection of East Broad and North Jackson Streets. When he returned to retrieve the vehicle, it was gone. The vehicle is described as a tan 1999 Ford Taurus and should be displaying Georgia registration BIP 2466.

Three unlocked vehicles were entered on Lexington Circle. A 38-year-old man said his unlocked vehicle was parked at his residence and was entered and rummaged through, but nothing was taken. A 54-year-old man said his unlocked vehicle was entered and rummaged through, but nothing was taken.  A 25-year-old man reported that his unlocked vehicle was entered and the interior and trunk were rummaged through, but nothing was taken.

A 29-year-old man from Grady Avenue in Hull reported that he had left his truck parked and unsecured while he was fishing in McNutts’s Creek near Macon Highway at Lumpkin Street. A wallet, containing personal identifiers and a debit card, was stolen.

An officer was investigating a suspicious person at the , when he witnessed the man remove a plastic bag from his jacket pocket and place it on a display rack, then walk away. Investigation revealed the bag contained a quantity of suspected marijuana. Darin Lamar Brown, 43, James Street, Athens, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana With Intent To Distribute. Officers also recovered a small electronic scale.

ACCPD officers responded to a fight-in-progress call involving a large group near the 150 Building at Bethel Midtown Village. They did not locate anyone fighting, but they did make contact with one female who continued to scream at others, possibly trying to start another fight. After several attempts to try and calm her down and get her to return to her residence, Miranda Yumika Mitchell, Hickman Drive, Athens, was arrested and charged with Simple Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction of an Officer.

Members of the Drug Task Force arrested Lazavier Cook and Maurice Skelton at 205 Hawthorne Avenue after they noticed what appeared to be drug activity at the car wash at that location.  They approached the subjects and seized a quantity of marijuana, digital scales, and cash. Both were charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.

The Drug Task Force members also executed a search warrant at 325 Lombardy Circle.  A quantity of crack cocaine, digital scales, packaging material associated with the distribution of cocaine, and cash were seized. Robert Cary Barnett and Hattie Hill were arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute.

Pro-Tech Automotive on Lexington Road was burglarized between 7pm on June 29 and 6:15pm on July 5.  Several thousand dollars worth of automotive tools and diagnostic equipment, including a wireless diagnostic computer valued at $10,698, were stolen.  Some of the tools were owned by employees.

Between midnight on May 1 and 8pm on July 5 a Gaines School Road storage unit was burglarized.  Tool chests with tools, an air compressor, car jacks, a motorcycle jack, an impact gun, and air paint tools were stolen.  The total value was $8,190. 

Air conditioner parts valued at $4,000 were stolen from air conditioner units at two Laurie Drive residences owned by Delta Realtor, 995 Gaines School Road.  The thefts occurred between 10am on July 3 and 10am on July 5. Possible suspects were named.
