Crime Blotter--Parking Meter Thefts

Not enough quarters? Someone took the tops off two parking meters in front of on East Washington Street, police said. The meters, which accept cash money, as well as debit and credit cards, are valued at $1,000, said Laura Miller, who directs parking services for the That agency manages parking in the downtown area.

“it’s not the first time something like this has happened.” Mill said. “We usually find them ditched in a bed of shrubs. It’s typically a late night prank.”

Whoever took the meter tops surely wasn’t looking for money. One contained $5 and one, $11.

“Nobody stands to take real money,” said Miller.

The theft happened sometime between 7:30am on April 9 and 10am on April 16. The meters will be replaced.

 

Between 11:30am on April 4 and 10:50am on April 17 a building at the former site of Armstrong and Dobbs, 315 Oconee St, was burglarized. Copper valued at $3,000 was stolen from an electrical box.   

 

A man reported that chain saws valued at $3,000 were stolen from the bed of his truck between 5pm on April 16 and 10am on April 17. The truck was parked at his Campbell Drive residence.
