Crime Blotter--Theft, Drugs, Assault

A 51-year-old woman reported that when she pulled into a parking space at her Scandia Circle (Tivoli Apartments) residence, a male subject jumped into the passenger side of her vehicle and brandished a knife. The subject placed the knife in her side and told her to give him her money or he would cut her. When she said she had no money, the subject saw cash laying on the console of her car, grabbed the money, and ran from the car towards the complex’s pool. The woman described her assailant as a Hispanic Male, 5”06”-5’08”, heavy-set, muscular build, wearing a white tee shirt, beige shorts and black shoes. She also described him as having long, frizzy, dark hair pulled back into a ponytail. She was not injured during the robbery.

ACCPD officers responded to a location on Cone Drive to investigate suspicious vehicles. They found two vehicles parked with occupants inside. When they approached one of the vehicles, a passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran.  A foot chase ensued, and during that time, the vehicle sped off and a chase ensued. The vehicle was finally stopped on Danielsville Road.  The driver, Donald Anthony Williams, Jr., 40, Hanover Place, Athens, was subsequently charged with Fleeing and Attempting to Elude. A search incidental to arrest yielded a quantity of drugs and a weapon. Williams was also charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Schedule I/II Drug With Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Schedule III/IV/V Drug With Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine With Intent to Distribute and Tampering With Evidence. A passenger, Daquan Verquese Faust, 20, Hickman Drive, was also arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Drugs Not In Original Container, Possession of a Schedule III/IV/V Drug and Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.

ACCPD officers responded to a residence on East Broad Street after a witness called, stating they had seen a subject carrying a crow bar and a pillow case acting suspiciously around the house. It was the discovered that the residence of a young man had been entered through a broken window. It was later learned that a subject had been seen stashing items in the crawl space under another East Broad Street residence. After obtaining consent from the owner of the property, three TV’s, two of which were taken from the the residence, an X-Box 360 Game System and two games, also stolen from the residence, and four bottles of wine were also recovered. Two juvenile suspects were identified along with a possible adult suspect. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have yet been filed. 

A man reported his vehicle was entered while it was parked near his Herring Street residence. A Reebok athletic bag, Canon digital camera, athletic shoes, baseball glove and an Apple I-Pod were stolen.

Two vehicles were entered while they were parked at a Tawnyberry Lane. Both vehicles were entered by prying and breaking front door glasses. A Dell laptop and tote bag were taken from one vehicle. A soccer equipment bag (North Georgia College), sunglasses, a purse and credit cards were taken, as was a North Georgia College rain jacket with the number “11”.A woman reported her unsecured vehicle was entered while it was parked on East Broad Street. A Garmin GPS was taken from inside the vehicle.

A woman from Bentwood Trail, Winterville, reported her vehicle was entered while it was parked at Body Plex, 1225 Cedar Shoals Drive. A purse containing her wallet, credit cards and checks was taken.

Two vehicles were entered while they were parked at Red Lobster, 1956 West Broad Street. A Watkinsville woman reported her car was entered through a broken window and a Coach purse, a wallet, cash and credit/debit cards were taken. A woman from Bowersville reported her vehicle was entered through a broken window and a Coach purse, containing her wallet and credit/debit cards, and a large shoulder bag containing personal items were stolen. 

A woman from Timothy Road, reported that she had left her 2006 Suzuki Forenza running and unattended under the awning at the Hampton Inn, 2220 West Broad Street. When she returned, her vehicle was gone. Responding officers located the vehicle in the Applebee’s parking lot next door. A cell phone and digital camera had been taken.

 

ACCPD officers responded to a report of a reckless driver on GA Loop 10 near North Avenue. The complainant advised the motorcycle exited at the Commerce Road and had pulled into the Shell Station at 1190 Commerce Road. Contact was made with the motorcycle, a 2005 red/black Yamaha Chappy, at the gas pumps. When the tag displayed did not return to the motorcycle, further investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen in August of 2011. The driver, Michael Terrel BILLUPS, 21, Vincent Drive, Athens, was arrested and charged with Theft by Retaining Stolen Property, Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers, Reckless Driving, Driving With a Suspended/Revoked License and Improper Tag Display. Later the same day, between 11:09 and 11:16pm, someone entered the storage lot at Shuman’s Towing, 1563 South Lumpkin Street, by cutting the chain on the gate, and stole the motorcycle. A vehicle and suspect can be seen on surveillance video during the theft.
