Felon Who Tries Shoplifting at Belk Arrested in Possession of Illegal Firearm

At approximately 7:38 pm on February 2, Loss Prevention Officers at Belk, 3700 Atlanta Highway, observed a subject take clothing from a rack, then proceed to take other items and conceal them underneath the clothing. The subject entered a dressing room, but when he exited, the merchandise was not visible. He attempted to exit the business, but was detained by Loss Prevention. ACCPD officers arrived to investigate, and $195.00 worth of merchandise was recovered. It was also discovered that the subject had a .32 caliber revolver in his pocket. Zachary Campbell, 28, of Alto, GA, was arrested and charged with Felony Theft By Shoplifting, Carrying A Concealed Weapon, Carrying A Firearm Without A Permit and Possession Of A Firearm By A Convicted Felon.

At approximately 9:30 pm on February 2, ACCPD officers on patrol inside Bethel Midtown Village witnessed what they believed was a drug transaction. Upon the officers’ approach, one of the two subjects turned and attempted to run. He was apprehended after a short chase. Ian Cameron Crowley, 25, Springdale Street, Athens, was found to be in possession of a Schedule I/II Drug (MDMA/Ectasy) and was subsequently arrested for Possession of MDMA, Obstruction of a Police Officer and Criminal Trespass.

A woman reported that her Scandia Circle apartment had been entered through unknown means (no signs of forced entry). It appeared that the residence had been rummaged through, but it was determined that nothing was to have been taken.

A man reported that his unsecured garage at his Norman Way residence had been entered sometime between December 26 and February 2. Checks and other personal papers were reported to have been stolen.

A woman from West Hancock Avenue reported that she had parked her vehicle near the intersection of Hull Street and Hancock Avenue at around 10:00 pm on February 1. When she returned to retrieve her vehicle at 2:30 pm, February 2, it was gone. Her vehicle was described as a black in color, 1998 Honda Civic and should be displaying Georgia license plate LAL348.

At 3:52 am on February 3, a man from Burkland Drive was operating a 1994 Chevrolet Impala on Acadia Drive. He lost control and left the roadway, overcorrected, then struck a mailbox at which time his vehicle overturned. His vehicle came to rest in the driveway of an Acadia Drive home after striking a vehicle that had been parked in the driveway. The driver was transported by ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. He was charged with Driving Under The Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving and Failure To Maintain Lane.
