Crack Before Jail, Woman Asks Athens Police

Saying she stabbed someone, a 46-year-old woman asks to smoke crack before going to jail.

 

She wanted to be high before she went to jail.

Essie Mae Jones asked an Athens Clarke County Police Officer if she could smoke crack before she was taken to jail on Wednesday afternoon, according to Athens Clarke County Police. Jones, 48, was being arrested for having stabbed a 55-year-old man.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Jones told police she stabbed the man because he called her a “bitch.”

The man was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center suffering from a severe stab wound in his lower abdomen, the story said.

The Athens paper quoted Capt. Clarence Holeman as saying, “Jones said she stabbed him because she was tired of being disrespected.”
