Ga. Perimeter Student Arrested in Connection with Athens Armed Robbery

The student was heading home when he accepted a ride from people who robbed him.

A Georgia Perimeter College student has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in September near the Baptist Student Union on Lumpkin Street.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, DeKalb County Police on Tuesday at noon arrested Johnathan Courtney Burke, 23, and charged him with armed robbery and financial transaction card fraud. Police believe he was the driver of the car that transported a 19-year-old UGA student from downtown to his destination, then robbed him at gunpoint on September 22

There were two other men in the car with Burke, who told police he didn't know their identity, the story says. The student told police that the front seat passenger pulled a gun on him.

The three car passengers were later seen buying stuff in a convenience store with either a credit card or a debit card. Footage from the store led police to Burke, the story says.
