Golden Pantry Clerk Robbed at Knifepoint of $232 in Athens, Ga.

ACCPD responded to an armed robbery call at the , at 9:19pm, December 8. The clerk said he had been behind the counter, moving money from the cash register to the floor safe, when a white man stepped behind the counter, brandished a knife and demanded the money.

The clerk stepped back and the suspect took $232 in cash. The suspect was described as white, approximately 30 years old, with a large tattoo on the left side of his neck, and missing several teeth. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and light colored jeans.

Two witnesses followed the suspect out of the store, but lost contact near the end of Sycamore Drive. The police investigation led to the identification of Ray Lee McDaniel, 26, as the suspect.

He is 5-10 and 180 pounds. He is known to frequent the area of Nicole Circle, Sycamore Drive and Oaks on the River. He may still be armed with a knife, so people are asked to be cautious.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of McDaniel is asked to contact the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and ask for Detective Boyle at 706-613-3337, x327 or 706-623-2008.

In November 2008, McDaniel, then 22, was arrested for felony entering auto, according to the Athens Banner Herald. When he was 17, he was arrested by security at the Wal Mart in Oconee County for shoplifting and simple battery.
