Gravestone Marker in Place For Fallen Athens-Clarke County Police Officer

A memorial bench and grave stone marker have arrived at Evergreen Memorial Park for Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian, who was shot and killed while on duty earlier this year.

A memorial bench and gravestone marker for Athens-Clarke County Police Officer , who was killed in the line of duty this spring, have been put in place at Evergreen Memorial Park.

A Facebook page update from Christian’s wife Melissa Thursday said, “Just to let everyone know the marker and memorial bench have arrived at Evergreen. They look great!”

The post got more than 100 “likes” and brought comments from people wanting to honor the fallen officer.

“Will we stop by and pay our respects. Hope you are doing well,” wrote Susan Ellen Herda, in response to the update.

“I will make it a special point to go over to Athens and see all the beautiful memories of a GREAT man, father and husband,” said a post from Cindy Sherill.

The page’s wall is covered with posts from friends and family showing their compassion and remembrance for Christian.  

Christian was shot to death while responding to a carjacking incident in March.

Jamie Hood, 33, was charged with murdering Christian and faces numerous other felony counts for murder, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
