Man Arrested, Charged With Firing Gun Outside Athens Residence

The incident occurred in the Pepperidge Lane area.

ARREST

Around 10:10 p.m. on May 21 officers responded to a complaint of shots fired in the Pepperidge Lane area. Officers located the source of the gunshots. The residence and the area around the residence were searched. Several subjects were located and taken into investigative detention. Investigation revealed that while outside the residence, Javier Perez-Renteria fired numerous gunshots in the residential area. Perez-Renteria, 51, Pepperidge Lane, was arrested and charged with Discharging a Firearm Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, Discharging a Firearm On/Near Public Highway/Street, and Reckless Conduct. No one was injured during this event.

BATTERY

An officer met with Towne View Place resident at St. Mary’s Hospital where he was being treated for a cut to his head. He advised he was in the E Broad Street/Thomas Street area around 1 a.m. May 22. He said he was struck in the head with what he thinks was a glass bottle. He said he did not see who hit him; therefore, no suspect description is available. He walked home and a friend transported him to the hospital.

THEFT BY TAKING

A Barnett Shoals Road resident reported her 2012 Nissan Sentra stolen from the 900 block of W Hancock Avenue between 10 p.m. May 20 and 10 a.m. May 21. The vehicle is white, with Georgia tag PDA6852, and is valued at $16,000.
