UGA Employee Killed While Helping Woman With Disabled Car Identified

Authorities late Friday released the name of the 33-year-old man who was struck by a car Thursday night on the SR 10 Loop near Ga. 316.

Oconee County Coroner Ed Carson late Friday identified the victim struck and killed by a car Thursday on the SR 10 Loop near Ga. 316 as 33-year-old Evan Andrew Lilly of Athens. Gwinnett County Police assisted with the notification of his family, Carson said.

He worked for UGA as a Application Analyst Associate in Population Health in the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine.

Lilly stopped to assist a 44-year-old Athens woman with her 1999 disabled Cadillac DeVille around 11:18 p.m. Thursday, according to spokesman Gordy Wright with the Georgia State Patrol.

A 31-year-old Athens woman driving a 1999 Chevy Cavalier swerved to avoid striking the DeVille broken down in the travel lane and Lilly was hit, Wright said. Authorities said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team with the State Patrol is investigating.
