Man Runs From Police, Is Caught Smoking Crack Before Arrest

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens man was arrested and charged with cocaine possession after he ran from police and was found smoking cocaine in an empty lot, according to an report.Β

An officer was patrolling Fourth Street when he saw a car parked on the side of the street and decided to talk to the person sitting inside. While he was talking to the man, he saw a man pop up from beside the passenger's side of the car and start running.Β

The officer began chasing the man through the woods and into an empty lot on the 200 block of Fourth Street. While the officer was looking for the man, he noticed an orange glow at the back of the lot. After illuminating the area he saw the man crouched down behind an old couch, inhaling from a crack cocaine pipe "so hard [the officer] saw his chest enlarge." He then threw the crack pipe into the woods, where it could not be found.
