Man Slammed to Ground, Kicked by Armed Robber Who Offered Pot

The man's phone, cigarettes and pocket knife were stolen.

An Athens man told police he was kicked and robbed after telling the suspect he wasn’t interested in buying marijuana.

According to an Athens-Clarke County Police media release, the Gaines School resident said he was walking home from Athens Gardens around 9:30 p.m. on July 20, when a man came up and started walking with him.

“The male asked if he wanted any ‘weed,’” the news release stated. “When he said no, the male tried to shake his hand. At this time, the male ‘slammed’ him on his back and kicked him in the face.”

The man allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded “everything.” The victim gave up his cell phone, cigarettes and a pocket knife.

The man was treated at St. Mary’s Hospital. Police are looking for the suspect.
