Man Told to "Give It Up, Get Down," Sustains Blow to His Head

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An officer met with a resident of East Paces Drive at Athens Regional Medical Center.

The man said he had been walking in the 4000 block of Lexington Road at 1am on Thursday, September 12. Two black men approached him from behind.

One told him to “give it up, get down.” He started to run, but one suspect grabbed him by the shirt and struck him in the head with an unknown object.

He was able to free himself and he ran toward Athens Gardens. As he ran, he heard two or three gunshots.

The assailants wore all black clothing and one had small twists in his hair. An acquaintance transported him to the hospital.

The man was uncooperative during the investigation, the police report said.
