Man Tries on $2,500 Wedding Ring, Then Runs Out the Store

Also reported: Assault, burglary and more thefts.

Assault

  • An Athens man reported he was struck in the back of the head by an unknown assailant while he was at Club Platinum, 1905 Commerce Rd. The incident occurred on 3/9/14 around 1 a.m. He could not provide reporting officers with suspect information or a reason for the assault. Wright said he believed the suspect left in a Gray Dodge Charger. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Burglary
  • A man reported his Helen St. residence was burglarized between 11 a.m. on 3/7/14 and 12:20 p.m. on 3/8/14.  He said the door was kicked in and a TV valued at $1,000 was taken.
Theft
  • An Athens woman said her 2010 Dodge Charger was entered while parked at The Shell Station, 1780 Commerce Rd. She said the incident occurred between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. on 3/8/14. She said a cell phone valued at $500 was taken.
  • An employee at Kay Jewelers, 3700 Atlanta Hwy reported that an unknown white male stole a wedding ring valued at $2,499. He said the incident occurred on 3/8/14 around 1:27 p.m. He also said the suspect had been in the store earlier that date inquiring about the ring, when the employee allowed the suspect try the ring on the suspect fled the store.
  • A resident on Weir Circle reported that an unknown person stole her wallet sometime on 3/8/14. She said she had $1,300, and a pair of headphones in her wallet, and stated that she believes her roommate stole her wallet.
  • A resident on Sleepy Creek Drive reported her 2011 Toyota 4Runner was entered while parked at the intersection of Georgia Dr and Prince Ave. The incident occurred on 3/8/14 between 1845 and 2130. She said her purse and various clothing type items were taken.
Arrests
  • Dexter Williams of Ruth Street was arrested in Parkview Homes on 3/8/14. Williams was charged with Criminal Trespass, Possession of Marijuana less than 1oz, False Name and Possession of a Firearm by a convicted felon.
