Man Whacks Away Intruder with Golf Club in Athens, Ga.

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

Around 7am on January 6, officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred at a North Harris Street residence of a UGA student.

Officers met with the 22-year-old resident who said he had been asleep when he heard a noise in the living room. He looked out of his bedroom door but did not see anything out of order so he went back to bed.

A few minutes later he heard another noise. He grabbed a golf club--a 7 iron, according to the Athens Banner Herald--from his closet, entered the living room and saw a man standing there.

He then noticed a flat screen TV that had been mounted on the wall was on the floor. The resident told police he hit the suspect in the back with the golf club--breaking the shaft, the newspaper story says--and the intruder exited the back door. Nothing is believed to be missing at this time.

The suspect was described as 6’, average build, with dark skin. He wore a dark ski mask, a dark hoody type jacket with “Emory” written on it, and dark jeans. The resident thinks the suspect said his name was possibly Simmons.
