Missing Franklin County Woman with Ties to Athens Likely Found Dead in Well

An autopsy will determine if the remains are those of Bonny Anne Cooner.

Authorities believe they have recovered the remains of a Franklin County woman in a well close to her home in Canon. Bonny Anne Cooner, 33, was said to have ties to Athens when her family reported her missing almost two weeks ago.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, law enforcement officials have arrested Cooner's live-in boyfriend, Brent Shubert, in connection with her disappearance. He shared a house with Cooner and her 12-year-old son.

Shubert, 42, was picked up in Anderson County, S.C., and has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and concealing a death, the story says. The remains are going to be excavated on Sunday and taken to the State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.
