Over the long Memorial Day weekend, Athens-Clarke County Police were called to investigate multiple burglaries.
At 5 a.m. on May 25 a woman said she heard noises outside her Picasso Drive residence and a short time later, she heard someone knocking on her door.
The woman did not respond to the knocking, but later that morning discovered that someone had attempted to pry open the rear door of her residence. Entry was not gained into the apartment, police said.
Police also investigated the following incidents:
- A resident of Firewood Street said someone kicked in the side door to his home between 7 and 8 a.m. on May 24. A TV was the only item taken.
- A Grove Street residence was entered sometime between 1 p.m. on May 24 and 3 p.m. on May 26. A backpack, jewelry and assorted electronics are missing.
- About $3,000 worth of tools and a vehicle engine were taken from a shed on Spring Valley Road after a resident had made an arrangement for a man named "Mike" to clean her yard. The items were stolen sometime between 9 a.m. on May 17 and 11 p.m. on May 19 but the incident was reported on May 26.
