Monroe man arrested for bribery.

 

On Monday, February 20, 2012, 61-year-old Julian Larry Anderson of Monroe was arrested and charged by agents with the GBI with one count of bribery. Anderson turned himself in to the Clarke County Jail after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was booked and released on a $10,000 bond.

Anderson’s arrest was the result of a bribery investigation that also led to the arrest of ACC Police Officer Christopher Burton.  An investigation had revealed that Anderson paid money to a cooperating ACC police officer, expecting  a pending DUI charge against him to be dismissed.  The transaction was monitored by GBI agents.

On Monday, February 13, 2012, ACC Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin had requested that the GBIlook into allegations of possible bribery by one of his officers.  Investigation revealed that Burton had told a fellow officer that a friend would pay a quantity of money to have a DUI charge dismissed.  Subsequently, the cooperating officer reported this information to his superior officer, and this resulted in the request for the investigation.
