Police Reports: Accident with Injury, Burglary and Robbery

Athens-Clarke County Police Media Release, March 4.

ACCIDENT WITH INJURY

  • Around 1530 March 3 Willie Slim Jordan of Spring Valley Rd, driving a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, was east bound on Broad St in the inside lane. Raphael Arbelaez of Fortson, riding a scooter, was north bound on Church St. An east bound bus had stopped in the outside lane. Arbelaez attempted to cross Broad St and as he entered the inside lane, he was struck by the Jordan vehicle and ejected from the scooter. He struck the windshield and then came to rest on the roadway. Arbelaez was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. No charges have been filed pending completion of the investigation.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

  • Between 1800 February 28 and 1200 March 3 an attempt was made to burglarize a storage shed at Classic City Dialysis, 2485 Jefferson Rd.

BURGLARY

  • A construction trailer owned by Driver Construction, 1360 Danielsville Rd, was burglarized between 1600 March 2 and 0800 March 3, at a Hawthorne Ave construction site. A heater, drop cords, ladder, surge protector, and lights were stolen. The items were valued at $605.

ROBBERY

  • Officers responded to a robbery of an individual that had just occurred in the area of Waddell St/Franklin St around 1520 March 3. Robert Joseph Swaskey of W Dougherty St said a young black male approached and asked for money. When he told him he had no money, the suspect grabbed him by the arms, spun him around, and demanded money. The suspect then searched his pants pockets and removed his wallet. After taking about $60, the suspect fled on foot, possibly toward Clarke Central High School. He was described as in his late teens or early 20’s, with short to medium length hair, and wearing a gray sweatshirt. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
