Police: Suspect Grabbed Man in Crotch, Stole His Wallet

He also stuck his hand down the victim's pants during the assault on Pope Street.

Athens-Clarke Police are looking for a man suspected in an attack on Pope Street, during which he allegedly grabbed another man in the crotch and shoved his hand down the front of the victim’s pants.

The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. March 20, according to a police press release.

The victim, 25, told police he was walking south on Pope Street when he heard someone running toward him from behind near the intersection with Broad Street.

“The suspect grabbed the victim’s crotch and tackled him to the ground. He then placed his hand down the front of the victim’s pants,” police said in a press release. “The victim punched the suspect in the face and the suspect punched him in the face and chest.”

The suspect fled, but not after allegedly taking the man’s wallet, which contained a paycheck and passport valued at $205.

The suspect is described as a black man, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, around 200 pounds, with a shaved head and no facial hair. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, dark pants and white shoes.
