Police: Woman, 50, Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver While Crossing Street

Athens-Clarke County Police say a 50-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver early Thursday morning near St. Mary’s Hospital.

Lisa Ann Pope was crossing West Broad Street near the entrance of St. Mary’s around 2:20 a.m. Thursday, May 8.

She was struck by a westbound vehicle and found in the roadway by another motorist, according to a police media alert. She was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center, where she died.

“At this time, there is no information on the vehicle or driver,” police stated. “The suspect’s vehicle possibly has a broken glass headlight and marker light.”
