Rape Suspect Incarcerated in Clarke County Jail

19-year-old man accused of raping UGA female student.

A young man accused of a raping a 22-year-old UGA student turned himself in to police Monday night and is now incarcerated in the Clarke County Jail.

Athens Clarke County Police Captain Clarence Holeman said the alleged rapist, 19-year-old Dillon Mason, made arrangements through his attorney to surrender.

A was issued on September 27, a day after the alleged incident, and police had been looking for him since then.

The accused rapist is from Brunswick, Holeman said, and is a student at Gainesville State in Watkinsville. He and his alleged victim knew each other.

The young woman did receive a sexual assault exam after the alleged incident, Holeman said.

Next for Mason will be either a preliminary hearing in magistrate court or an immediate indictment by District Attorney Ken Mauldin, Holeman said.
