Ringing Cell Phone Signals Arrest in Downtown Athens, Ga.

A 43-year-old woman told police that she was at the intersection of College Avenue and Clayton Street at 1:30am on November 4 when a man assaulted her.

She described his appearance to an officer and they found Anthony Lamar Zachary, 49, of Herring Street. The woman told police officers that Zachary had come up to her and grabbed her on the buttocks and "her private area," then made inappropriate comments to her when she tried to move away from him.

As the police officer was talking to Zachary, a cell phone in Zachary's pocket kept ringing. A man from Greenville, SC, came up to the officer, said his phone had been stolen and that he had tracked it to Zachary. The Greenville man took the phone, unlocked it and silenced it.

When the police officer searched Zachary, he found the wallet of the Greenville man. Zachary was arrested and charged with sexual battery and theft by receiving.
