Son of U.S. Senate Candidate Faces Marijuana Charge in Athens

Paul Collins Broun III is the son of U.S. Rep. Paul Broun

The 23-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Paul Broun was arrested in Athens Saturday morning after police found marijuana in his car.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported Paul Collins Broun III was stopped in a University of Georgia parking lot near South Lumpkin Street after 4 a.m. Saturday, 10. He was charged with possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, and failure to obey a traffic signal.

Police say an officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana after stopping the 2014 Cadillac driven by Broun. Both Broun and his passenger denied there was any pot, but a search found marijuana in a bag in the center console and residue in a film canister in Broun’s pocket.
