Suspicious Person Leads Police to Uncover Drug Deal

Athens-Clarke Police daily media alert, April 22.

Alerted by the actions of a suspicious person, Athens-Clarke Police arrested an Elberton man and charged him with intent to distribute drugs.

According to police, officers on foot patrol on Coleridge Court saw a man “walking back and forth, constantly looking over his shoulder.”

After watching him for several minutes, the officer decided to approach the man, who started walking toward a parked car, where another man was in the driver’s seat and a woman was standing outside the driver’s door.

Officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana as they approached the car. When the driver got out of the car, the odor became even stronger, according to police.

The driver, Demitrius Obrian Rucker, 30, denied there was any pot in the car.

But a police search uncovered several sandwich bags containing marijuana, a cigarette pack containing a “rock” that field-tested positive for crack cocaine, cash and digital scales.

Several pirated DVDs were also found.

Rucker was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana an cocaine, and possession of the pirated DVDs.
