UGA Student from Oconee Is Missing: Have You Seen Him?

The Oconee County, Ga. Sheriff's Office reports Quinton Ayers, a UGA student, was last seen in Athens around 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31. His body was found off Hwy. 316 in Gwinnett tonight.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for any information about the whereabouts of 22-year-old Quinton Ayers.

Chief Deputy Lee Weems said Ayers resides with his mother in Oconee County.  According to Ayers' Facebook page, he is a UGA student.

Ayers was last seen in Athens around 1 a.m. on Friday, and authorities have information that he may have left Athens in route to Adairsville, but he never arrived there, according to a news release. His last known cell phone activity was traced to a location in Gwinnett County near the airport.

Ayers is described as 6'2" and approximately 250 pounds with crewcut hair and a "shadow" beard. He was last seen wearing a neon yellow t-shirt, black shorts and flip flops. He drives a black 1999 GMC Sierra Z-71 truck (GA tag 889YRL).

Authorities are trying to help gather as much information and run down as many leads as possible, Weems said.

Anyone with information on this case should contact Investigator David Stauffacher at dstauffacer@oconeesheriff.org or 706-769-5665. This case is spanning over multiple counties, and Investigator Stauffacher will make sure any information gets to the appropriate places, according to the news release.
