UPDATE: Law Enforcement Findings Dispute Mother's Claims About Treatment of Her Autistic Son

Investigators with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office have conducted tests. They've studied video tapes. They've talked to school system personnel, including the bus driver who drove a four-year-old autistic child home from school one day last week.

Their findings, released Tuesday, sharply contradict claims the mother made in an incident report filed with the Sheriff's department, said Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry. Here is what the sheriff's investigators learned:

1) There was no blood on the four-year-old's shirt. Law enforcement experts tested the shirt and found no evidence of blood.

2) A video tape made on the bus--and taken into evidence--shows that the bus driver buckled the little boy into his seat, using a five point harness, at Oconee Primary School. No one was sitting near the little boy, and he fell asleep on the way home. When the bus arrived at his home, the bus driver unbuckled him and walked him to the door of his house with his backpack. There, the driver talked with the boy's mother about the pickup schedule.

3) The child has lost a bottom tooth, but photographs show there was no trauma to the child's lips or face, the Sheriff said. 

According to an incident report, the child's mother told investigators that her son had gotten off the bus with blood on his shirt and around his mouth. When she asked for an explanation of what had happened, she said she was told the video tape had been destroyed.
