An Athens woman was arrested Friday afternoon after she was reported for hitchhiking, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.

The man told police that Ribblett had asked for a ride but didn't tell him where to. The officer told the man "not to pick up strange women on the side of the road" and let him off with a warning.

Ribblett told police that her car had caught fire on Kim Chase Road earlier and no one would give her a ride. She said that she had only flagged down one driver and wanted a ride to North Avenue so that she could walk to a friend's house on Washinton Avenue. However, she would not say who her friend was. When the police officer suggested she get a cab rather than hitchhike, she said she didn't have sufficient money.

Ribblett was arrested for soliticiting rides on the roadway, since this tactic has previously been used to solicit prostitution. Officers found $15 while searching her person, which would have been sufficient cab fair.

Ribblett was later transported to Clarke County Jail.Β
