Young Boy on Bicycle Hit and Injured on Cherokee Road

Police didn't charge the driver who hit the child.

Around 6pm on Sunday, a 13-year-old Athens boy was riding his bike on Cherokee Road with a friend, heading home after visiting a store on Gaines School. He wasn’t wearing a helmet.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, the child suddenly turned his bike into the road to cross to the other side without checking if cars were coming. He was hit by a car near Cooper Road and severely injured.

Initially taken to Athens Regional, the boy was then transported by helicopter to a hospital in Atlanta that could deal with his head injuries.
