Just in Case You Missed It...

Athens Watering Restrictions Return!

Today, you’ll need to put away your garden hose and sprinkler.

At least for six days of the week.

Drought-stricken Athens will limit residents, governments, institutions and businesses to one day of outdoor watering. Mayor Denson has signed an order for the new regulations as water levels in Bear Creek Reservoir and in the Oconee River continue to drop.

The Upper Oconee River Basin Board has approved a Level 2 drought response. This requires a five percent reduction in water consumption by all members.

There are some exceptions for commercial car washes, nurseries that have plants for sale, and those with newly installed lawns. These can be watered for 30 days.
