Homeowner Says Vandals Burned Her Obama Sign in the Five Points Neighborhood of Athens, Ga.

Who could have done such a thing? she wonders.

Β

Dorothy and Jim Newland came home from a brief out of town trip on Saturday night. They glanced at their Obama 2012 sign in the front yard, and everything was fine.

When they left for church Sunday morning, they noticed that the plastic sign was gone from its metal frame. Dorothy Newland figured someone had stolen it.

But when Dorothy and Jim returned home from church, they found the burned and slightly melted Obama campaign sign lying on top of their scorched lawn. Dorothy Newland is pretty hot about the incident.

"Who would do such a thing?" she asked. "I'm going to drive the neighborhood and look for other Obama signs."

She found two intact Obama signs on Catawba Avenue. She called the Clarke County Democratic Headquarters, where someone told her she was very interested in the sign's having been burned.

The Obama signs cost the local Democratic organization $5 for each sign and $1 for each frame. There have been stories of other Obama supporters losing their signs, but not of someone burning an Obama sign.

Dorothy Newland plans to get a new Obama sign on Monday. As well as some for her neighbors.
