State House Seat Qualifying to Run from May 16-18

A June 21 special election is set to replace Hank Huckaby in the 113th District, which covers part Clarke County.

Candidates for the newly open state House seat representing part of Clarke County will have three days in mid-May to qualify, Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced Monday.

The non-partisan special election will be conducted June 21 without party primaries, but candidates' party affiliations will be listed on the ballot, according a news release from Kemp's ofice.

Candidates will have to pony up $400 in the Elections Division of the secretary of state's office. To vote in the election, citizens must be registered by Monday, May 23.

The election for the 113th District seat comes after the , who is the sole nominee to be the next chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

The district covers Oconee County and parts of Clarke, Morgan and Oglethorpe counties. Lee Becker of Oconee County Observations found a useful map of the district.

One announced candidate for the seat is Chuck Williams, former president of North Georgia Bank, which was earlier this year.
