Watering Restrictions? Heck, Who Needs Them? Well, We May....

The ACC Commission eases watering restrictions, and the new watering rules take effect on Thursday in Athens.

Having had two of the wettest months on record, the Athens Clarke County Commission voted Tuesday night to lift watering restrictions that have been in place since May.

Mayor Nancy Denson ended various outdoor watering rules on July 25, after the Upper Oconee Water Basin Authority authorized doing so. The Commission was just ratifying what she had done. The Commission's actions don't mean you can saturate your lawn or build your own private lake with county water.

They do mean we return to an even-odd watering schedule, from 4pm to 10am.. Assistant county manager Blaine Williams cautioned the Commission that August could be a drier than previous months and lifting all restrictions isn't wise.
