Cedar Shoals 'Quiz Jags' Win High Q Championship

Team sweeps in first-ever win for a non-metro Atlanta team in the WSB-TV competition.

Cedar Shoals High School won the WSB-TV High Q Championship, the first team from outside metro Atlanta to win it in the show’s 28-year history.

The championship aired on May 10, 2014.

“I am so incredibly proud of these kids and their achievement,” Coach Robin Richards said in a press release from county school system. “Above all, I hope they continue to be lifelong learners and use their knowledge. I also want to thank them for helping me reach a goal I have had for over 20 years!”

The "Quiz Jags" consisted of Abbey Campbell, Brian Heredia, Jose Heredia and Evan Knox split $5,000 in scholarship money. Team drove the furthest — 700 miles for five games — than any other team in the competition. 

Next up is the National Academic Quiz Tournament High School National Championship in Chicago on May 31 and June 1.

“Cedar Shoals High School continues to shine in all areas whether it is academic or athletics, but what the Quiz Jags have done is something special,” said Principal Tony Price. “I am so proud of our students and Coach Richards for this outstanding accomplishment! We will continue to encourage excellence in all academic extracurricular activities for our students.”
