Derrick Maxwell to Head Whit Davis Elementary

He moves from Burney-Harris-Lyons, where he was assistant principal.

 

The Clarke County Board of Education has appointed current assistant principal Derrick Maxwell as principal of , effective for the 2012-13 school year.

“Mr. Maxwell has been instrumental in Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School reaching higher levels of student achievement,” said Superintendent Philip Lanoue. “I believe he will provide strong leadership to Whit Davis Elementary School in developing effective classroom environments for high performance and building strong community relationships.”

Since 2008, Maxwell has been assistant principal at Burney-Harris-Lyons. He was also  middle school summer school principal from 2009-11.

Before that, he was the afterschool program specialist for the school district and Pathways to Success (afterschool) coordinator at Burney-Harris-Lyons. From 2002-07, Maxwell was a teacher at Burney-Harris.

He earned a specialist in educational administration and supervision from Lincoln Memorial University, an M.A. in teaching from George Washington University and a B.A. in psychology from the UGA.

“I have been a member of the Clarke County School District family for the past 10 years and have gained so much working with colleagues, students, families and the community,” said Maxwell. “I look forward to the next chapter ahead with the Whit Davis Elementary School community.”

Former Whit Davis principal Katrina Daniel accepted the position of Gaines Elementary School principal for the 2012-13 school year.
