Friday Night Lights: Dim the Lights, the Season is Coming to an End

Cross town rivals, Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals, meet tonight in the season's final game.

The Clarke Central Gladiators welcome the Cedar Shoals Jaguars in what will be the final game of the season for both teams. The Glads beat Winder-Barrow 38-7 last week, the Jags lost to Salem, 14-17.

The Loganville Red Devils will finish their season on the road in Conyers tonight against the Salem Seminoles. Last week, the Devils rocked the region, and the state, by upsetting the high-ranked Gainesville Red Elephants 46-41. Their 3-6, 1-5 season will not qualify them for a playoff bid regardless of tonight's outcome.

Winder-barrow's Bulldogs (1-8, 1-6) welcome Apalachee's Wildcats (4-5, 2-4) to their side of Hwy 316 tonight in what will be the final game for both teams. Last week, both teams lost, for the Doggs it was 7-38 to Clarke Central, for the Cats it was a shutout to Heritage, 0-42

The playoffs loom large in this region tonight. The George Walton Academy Bulldogs (6-3, 3-2) take on the Prince Ave Christian School Wolverines (8-1, 4-1) tonight. Both teams won big last week and looking to finish the regular season strong.

The showdown in Athens pits the Undefeated Athens Academy Spartans (9-0,6-0) against the Athens Christian Academy Eagles (4-5, 3-2). The Eagles lost 3-42 to George Walton last week, while The Spartans crushed Hebron 44-20. Athens is all but assured home field advantage in the coming post season opener, an barring a major upset, look to finish the season undefeated.

It would take a major upset indeed for the Social Circle Redskins to finish the season with a win under their belt. Tonight, they take on the Washington-Wilkes Tigers (8-1, 5-1). Last week, the frustration mounted as the Skins lost their 9th game of the season to Union County. The hapless Redskins wound up getting blanked, again, 0-31. This will, mercifully, be the final game of their season.

Regional leaders, the North Oconee Titans (8-1, 6-0) finish regulation play at home against the Hart Co Bulldogs (5-4, 5-1). The Titans are looking at a good seed in the playoffs next week after an impressive season. Last week they chalked up a win against the Oconee Warriors , while Hart lost to Morgan Co, 35-8

Though not looking at a playoff bid, the Oconee Warriors hope to finish strong against the winless East Jackson Eagles. Last week, the Warriors lost to the Titans, a 21-63 walloping. The Eagles lost to Franklin Co 21-41.

The Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes (9-0, 6-0) are sweeping into Covington tonight to finish the regular season against the Eastside Eagles (6-3, 4-2). The 'Canes hope to end the season with their first ever undefeated season. Last week they defeated their top rival for the regional title, the Chestatee War Eagles, 35-14, while Eastside lost 7-23 to the regions other top challenger, Stephens Co. Indians. Monroe will be playing with home field advantage next week regardless of tonight's outcome. Tonight is also Fox5's game of the week.

The Walnut Grove Warriors will finish their season tonight at home against Lanier High. Last week, the Warriors lost a heartbreaker against the Madison County Red Radiers, 31-32. Lanier, meanwhile, defeated Lumpkin Co @24-7.

Bethlehem Christian's Knights (3-6) head to middle Georgia to play Jefferson Academy (7-3). Last week, then Knights out jousted Greene Academy, 31-7 while Jefferson blanked Curtis Baptist, 54-0.

The Loganville Christian Academy Lions are already into round 2 of their playoffs, having bested Creekside 31-12 last week in the playoff opener. Tonight they play Calvary, who beat Covenant Christian Academy (Loganville) 41-13 last week to advance.
