Athens Bulldog Swim Club Logs Two More Meets

Swimmers did well in the competitions.

 

Athens Bulldog Swim Club athletes competed at two meets, January 11-13 and 18-20.  Thirty-seven swimmers attended the City of Atlanta Dolphins’ Martin Luther King, Jr., Invitational on the first weekend, while a smaller contingent traveled to Georgia Tech for the Winter Kickoff on the following weekend.  Many members obtained qualifying times for the upcoming 14 & under Georgia Short Course State Swim Meet. 

Finishing in top three slots Friday night at MLK were Caleb Camus, Gabbie Filipov, Will Foggin, Brynn Halbach, Kate Holbrook, John Morgan McDonald and Dhruv Prakash.

Those medaling in more heavily attended Saturday or Sunday events included Caleb Camus (10) – 3rd in 9-10 boys’ 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke; Caedmon Churchwell (11) – 3rd in 11-12 boys’ 100-yard breaststroke; Ansley Halbach (7) – 2nd in 8 & under girls’ 100-yard freestyle; Brynn Halbach (10) – 2nd in 9-10 girls’ 100-yard butterfly, 3rd in 100-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly, and 100-yard backstroke; Cedar Hawkes (16) – 3rd in senior girls’ 100-yard backstroke; Kate Massey (12) – 2nd in 11-12 girls’ 50-yard butterfly, 3rd in 50-yard backstroke; Siya Kannan (10) – 3rd in 9-10 girls’ 100-yard butterfly; and Ryan Wylie (10) – 3rd in 9-10 boys’ 100-yard butterfly.

Enjoying all personal best times for the weekend (9) were Siya Kannan and Felicia Pursner.

Swimmers dropping significant time off races at MLK included Mackenzie Baumgartner (11) – 50 free; Gretchen Hinger (9) – 100 free and 100 IM; Kate Holbrook (13) – 500 free and 200 fly; Siya Kannan (10) – 100 breast and 200 free; Charlie Logan (11) – 200 free; Henry Logan (9) – 100 back and 200 free; Jake Mauldin (9) – 100 IM; John Morgan McDonald (13) – 1650 free; Kendall Moon (14) – 200 back; Felicia Pursner (10) – 100 breast; Rebecca Pursner (7) – 100 free; and Aisha Schulz (11) – 100 free and 100 breast.

At Georgia Tech, Abigail Weimer (10) placed 3rd  in 10-under girls’ 50-yard butterfly and dropped significant time in her 500-yard freestyle.

Danielle DellaTorre (13) finished 1st in 13-year-old girls’ 500-yard freestyle and 2nd in 200-yard freestyle, while Megan Measel (14) placed 2nd in 14-year-old girls’ 100-yard breaststroke.

ABSC club members will next compete at Lanier Aquatics’ Winter Qualifier February 8-10.
