Athens-Oconee Jr. Teams Shine at State Tennis Championships

Two teams from Clarke and Oconee counties played well in Macon last weekend.

Athletes from Athens and Oconee County played outstanding tennis this weekend in Macon in the USTA Jr. Team Tennis Georgia State Championships. Two teams coached by participated in the Beginning Silver category.

The 10U team had only six members, making it the smallest team at the championships. This meant that each member had to play more matches than other players. Even with this added burden, these young athletes played very competitively. Unofficial results have the 10U Team ranked at 5th overall in the state out of fifteen teams.

The 12U team progressed to the finals on Sunday and had a great showing. Unofficial results have the 12U Team ranked in 2nd place in their category.
