Come Play at Avid Bookshop for Books for Keeps!

A group of graduate students from UGA's Institute of Nonprofit Organizations is throwing a short-notice fundraiser to help raise 13,000 more books.

Bring your kids to  this Saturday, Feb. 18th, from 2pm – 4pm. There will be all sorts of fun activities:

- A Play-Doh art station, AND a demonstration of how to make your own play dough at home
- A bouncy castle, generously provided by Earthen Excursions
- Sidewalk chalk-drawing stations

- Bubble blowing

You are welcome to bring gently used books for kids in K-12.
Avid Bookshop will be selling books from our wish list, and 10% of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to us as well. If you haven't already heard, we're trying to raise 13,000 MORE books by May 1 - so this is a great opportunity to help us reach our goal.

About Books for Keeps:  Books for Keeps started as one woman’s effort to help a child who loved to read but had no books at home. It grew into a grassroots movement to end summer slide in Athens by ensuring children have access to books during summer. Books for Keeps distributes books to Clarke County School District students ranging from pre-K through 12th grade.  The elementary school program is based on a University of Florida study that found giving economically-disadvantaged elementary school children 12 high-interest books each at the beginning of summer had an impact on reading achievement statistically similar to attending summer school.
