Splashdown at the Bishop Park Pool

It is one small splash for man, one giant splash for mankind! Celebrate the forty-second anniversary of the historic moon landing with a swim under the moon at the Bishop Park pool

The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services presents Splashdown a pool event Wednesday, July 20 from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. at the Bishop Park Pool at 705 Sunset Drive. This program is free of charge. Participants will enjoy swimming 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. followed by activities and refreshments from 8:30 – 9:30 p.m.

This program, honored by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association as “Innovative Aquatics Program” in 2010, is for parents and their children and will include swimming under the moon where Neil Armstrong made history on July 20, 1969. The program includes an art and crafts activity led by Lyndon House Arts Center staff. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to explore the world of astronomy both day and night with Sandy Creek Nature Center staff. Music will be exclusive to those songs with “moon” in the title or a moon reference in the lyrics. Refreshments, including Tang and Moonpies, will be served.
