Why Are These People Wearing Blankets?
The line for day camp registration was long, the spaces in zoo camp were few.
Saturday was the day when hundreds of people got up before light and headed to Memorial Park to try and register their children for day camps--the popular day camp and the equally popular zoo camp. Both are well run by ACC Leisure Services, and both are very affordable.
When I arrived at 6am, the line was about halfway around the basketball court. People had brought chairs, sleeping bags and blankets, food and hot drinks. They were prepared. Next year, I expect to see generators and portable heaters.

Alas, there were only so many places for a huge number of children. All four weeks of zoo camp closed out just as I arrived at the registration table.
Next year, I plan to be on the court--with my chair, sleeping bag and coffee--at 5am. Or maybe even 4.
