Peace family. This week is Homecoming week at the University of Georgia. But it's very hard to feel at home when vile racist and homophobic comments are posted on the facebook pages of the Black Affairs Council (BAC) and the LGBT Resource Center.
In response, courageous students organized a peaceful protest called “A Minority’s Plea: When Will the Injustice End? Speakers included representatives from BAC, LGBT Resource Center, Amnesty International and the Undocumented Student Alliance. It was an amazing display of unity and I was very proud to march with them.
The University of Georgia desegregated over 50 years ago and it's now supposed to be a place that all Dawgs can call home. But more and more of us are feeling unwelcomed here. It’s obvious that some people still long for the time when it was ok to be an overt racist and homophobe. However, those days are gone!

There will be no peace until there is justice for all students, an end to the racism and homophobia, equal access for undocumented students, domestic partner benefits and a living wage for all employees!
