Peace family,
It was truly disappointing to hear President Morehead say, “We don’t have a source of funding that’s entirely private, that’s not supported by state benefits or state employees. So I think this issue’s back in the arena of the Board of Regents and the state of Georgia.”
This is a complete distortion of the truth. Foundation funds and auxiliary funds do not come from the State of Georgia and can be used for this purpose. The truth is that Georgia has a history of discriminating against the LGBT community. Even though there are straight couples registered as domestic partners this is still seen as a "gay" thing. Equal benefits are not a "gay" thing, they are the right thing.
UGA is conforming with bigotry by continuing to prohibit equal benefits. It's sad that not one senior administrator has emerged to champion this issue and urge UGA to do what's right. No, not one. So it's up to us to get UGA to do the right thing!
